DREDGE MACHINERY IMPROVEMENTS.

A number of gentlemen interested in the dredging industry met in the Dunedin Engineering and Foundry Company's works on Wednesday for the purpose of inspecting certain improved parts of dredging machinery, comprising tumbler, roller, and bucket pins, all of which have been invented and patented by Mr R. R. Douglas, engineer, Dunedin. The improvements on the present-day tumbler lie,s in its protection by hard metal wearing plates, which can be readily applied and renewed by an ingenious and simple method. The roller is likewise protected from wear by a sleeve, jox lever, which also has special advantages with a view to being easily renewed ■when sufficiently worn. Links for buckets on ths same principle were also shown. There "was also on view a model of a patent bucket pin. the essential feature of which is that the pin can be made quite as good as new by the renewing of a patent liner fitted thereto. The inventor's object in every case has been to protect the original parts of the machinery at the expense. of an attachable protector, so that in case of wear there is only the cost of the protector, and' not the whole part, as formerly. The top tumbler and ladder roller on View were made to the order of the Golden, Treasure Company, the directors of which, confident that considerable expense will be saved thereby, have decided to give them a. trial.
