Notes from Cromwell.

CROMWELL, March 28. The weather is fine and the river is falling steadily. It is now at a low level.

The Alpine Consols and Alpine No. 2 dredges should both get started dredging next week. The Consols is almost certain to get good returns right away, a? she left off on rich wash. The Alpine No. 2 will be closely watched, as a good many are under the impression that the hard layer over the wash was not broken through last winter. The Electric No. 1 dredge is still on very

rcugh giound, and th° returns will not be laige IjII this is pasted. The Junction No. 3 drodge started yesterday a little below where No. 2 stiuck the lead going into the bank. The dredge ought to get good returns when she has opened out. No. 2 dredge will probably shift down and work tilt rich ground belov.- the Junction of the two riveis again

April 1. The weather is fine, and the river is falling sterdi.lv.

The Junction No. 3 dredge has been opening out all the week, and is getting a face opened out into the bank, 'lheic should be a good leturn next week. The No. 2 dredge is doing well, considering the ground was worked before.

The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge is now over the hard bar and on much better wash. She is likely to get good returns for some time. The prospects now are veiy good. The No. 2 dredge started dredging again on Tbuisday night.
