Soon the bulk of this work will ba finished, and then ploughing operations wi'l be starting. Already there is a fair demand for practical agriculturists — men who thoroughly understand all classes of farm and station work. There is also a very keen demand for flaxmill hands, flax cutters, and: milkers. Wages keep up well, and rule as 1 follows: — Harvesters a-nd threshing mill hand's, 9c) and lOd per hour; ploughmen, 22s 6d lo 25.?; flax cutters, 6s to 7s pec ton; nnxmill hands, 6s to 7s per day; milkers, 173 6d to 22s 6d; waggoners. 25s to 30s; fencers. 255; hotel porters, 17s 6d to 20s; cooks (flaxmills), 25s to 30s; cooks and bakers, 25s tc 30s; labourers, 7s to Ss per day, station couples, £75 to £80; working overseers, 25s to 2~s 6d.
