WELLINGTON, March 15.

A double tragedy occurred this morning in a house at Newtown. The front of the premises was occupied by John Roussell, who kept a saddler's shop, while the upper portion is occupied by Mrs Pugh, her daughter (Mrs Hughes), and three children. Roussell boarded with the women.

Abotit 7 o'clock this morning Mrs Pugh went to RousseLTs rooms to call him, and found her daughter lying on the floor dying. She had apparently been poisoned. The mother rushed downstairs to Roussell, and found him in the shop with half his head blown off by a Winchester rifle. Roussell was aJbout 30 years of age.
