ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 8. There was a good attendance and a brisk market at Addington to-day.

Fat Cattle. — The yardmg was small, comprising only 166 head. All classes were represented, ond the quality was good. Prices were from 6s to 10s per bead above the previous week's rates. Steers sold at from £6 15s to £10 2s 6d; heifers, £5 15s to £8; cows, £5 10s to £8 7s 6d (one at £9 15s), being at the rate of from 20s to 22d for gooi to prime beef, and from 17s to 39s 6d for cow pnd inferior to middling. Fat Calves. — There was a good demand, and pricas ranged from 7s 6d to £3. Fat Sheep.— -The entry was of moderate dimensions, and, competition being active, an advance on previous rates was realised, wethers of freezing weights making as much as 4^d per lb over all, and ewes from 3£d to 4d. At these rates exporters were unable to operate, and practically the whole of the entry was taken by butchers. Prices were as follow: — Prime wethers, 22s to 26s 7d ; others, 18s to 21s 6d ; prime heavy ewes, 21s to 25s 4rl ; medium to good, 18s to 20s 6d ; aged, from 16s ; merino wethers, 15s 6d to 20s , ewes, 12s to 15s. Fat Lambs! — A moderate supply met with keen competition for all of lamb grade at an advance of 6d, while tegs were a shade weaker. Prices were : Tegs, 18s 6d to 19s 9d ; freezing weights, 16s to 18s. Store Cows. — There was a small entry. A few desirable lots of young steers sold fairly well, but there was nothing attractive in the rest of the entry, which met with a slow sale. Yearlings realised 16s ; 15 to 18-months' old, 39s 6d to 625; two-year-old heifers, £3 ss; dry cows, 37s 6d to £3 15s. Dairy Cows. — The entry was very large, and the improved tone perceptible last week was checked, only desirable cows and springing heifers being competed for. Prices ranged from £4 10s to £8 10s. Store Sheep.— A number approaching 10.000 were penned, including consignments from Nelson, Marlborough, the North Island, and the Chatham Islands. Bidding was perhaps less spirited than at recent markets, the high prices inducing caution, but there was no weakening of values, and almost every lot was sold. Prices were as follow: — Ewes, 18s Id to 25s 7d; wethers, 17s to 19s 7d ; lambs, 11s Sd to 17s sd. Pigs. — The yarding was below the average in number. Baconers were rather easier, but rorkers sold well. Small stores were lower. Prices were : For baconers, 40s to 535, or equal to 3|d to 4d per lb ; porkers, 26s to 383, or equal to 4Jd to 6|d per lb ; stores (large), 24s to 325; medium, 15s to 21s 6d; small, 7s to 12s 6d.
