CLIFBEN.

February 27. — The school children held their picnic on Friday on the ustial grounds, kindly lent by Mr Ttobert Tapper. The weather proved all that could be desired, and parents, friends, and children enjoyed themselves accordingly. A good working committee of both sexes carried out their part in a thoroughly satisfactory manner, everything being kept going — races, games, swings, tug-of-war, etc. The ladies looked after the victualling portion of the day's proceedings in a most efficient manner, assisted by the lads and lasses. There were toys of all descriptions for the children, the grown-ups and young people getcmg their races off in very good stylo, big entries being the order of the day. The day's proceedings wound up With a pleasant dsnee in the evening, the music being supplied by Mr P. Brown, assisted at times by local talent. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr J. Horrell for- the use of his hall and to all friends who came a long distance to help to make ihe affair a success.

Agricultural. — Harvest wMI bo the order of the day this week — in fact, Mr Tappoi made a stait on Friday in a very good crop of oats. Mr Davis, in the Gorge, has some cut, and Messrs Blatch, Whyte, and others are starting this week. The crops are well up to the average, and we are only two weeks behind our«tisual time. The green crop will be up to our standard, if not better. There are some beautiful crops in the district. A paddock of rape and -one of swedes, belonging to Mr Tapper, are looking grand, and now that we have had a needful rain they will furnish a good crop. Mr Blatch' 3 and others have had a good strike, Mr Tapper's being in raised drills. Stock are looking exceedingly well, and are good property, especially sheep.
