The match between Opoho and Dunedin was begun at Opoho on Saturday under very unfavourable climatic- conditions. A cold wind swept the ground, and showers of rain fell frequently, necessitating several adjournments during the afternoon. The Dunedin captain, winning the toss, elected to bat. At one stage oi the ?ame it appeared as if the Dunedin were going to put up a large score, but the glorious uncertainty of the game was again exemplified. The scoring board showed one wicket for 80, but after the dismissal of Mackersy and Cramond the wickets fell fast, and the innings closed for 116 runs, of whioh number Cramond and Maokersy were responsible for 99. The former, who batted in a free, vigorous style, compiled 72 before Webb broke through his defence.-"" Mackersy made a very serviceable 27. Chadwick, who bowled almost unchanged throughout the innings, obtained five wickets for 31 runs — a really good_ performance. Webb, with four for 26, reminded one of Webb of some years ago, and with a little more practice will still be a thorn in the side of most batsmen. The Opoho have made 72 runs for the loss of six wickets. Kenny (13) had the misfortune to be run out when he was well set. Kilgour (12) was batting in good, form when dismissed by a" beauty" from Shacklock. The match is in a very interesting stage, and should furnish an exciting finish.
