PRESENTATION TO MR JAMES MILL?.

At the Chamber of Commerce this afterpoon Mr James Mills, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, was pre--sented with an illuminated address and the -associate's gold badge by ihe Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers. The address, which is in a handsome frame of honeysuckle and kauri, was beautifully illuminated, and round it are a number of charming New Zealand views by Mr C. N. Worsley. It sets out that the institute, having unanimously elected Mr Milts a life honorary member, had delegated to the Wellington district the honour of presenting him with the gold badge and placing on record " th& liig-h esteem in which you are held by the marines engineers throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand. Your never-failing courtesy towards the institute. your readiness at all times to conciliate and etudy the interests and well-beiug of engineers, and your generous treatment of those under your command under all circumstances is co marked that it is with the greatest pleasure we take the opportunity afforded of recording our thanks for those many acts of kindness which have caused you to be respected by the institute and placed the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand in the forefront as employers." The following telegram was read from thf Premier: — "Regret exceedingly that J shall ba unable to make the presentation to Mr James Mills from the Commonwealth and New Zealand branches of the marine engineers. Nothing would have given me greater pleasure, but, with other pleasures, this must be denied. I i;m delighted with the step taken by the marine engineers. They are rightly recognising the worth of Mr Mills. He has at t'll times shown great consideration to those of our craft under his control. I have iskcd the Hon. C. H. Mills to make the ireaentation. presuming that will mee-t with four concurrence." To-night Mr James Mills is the guest of his Excellency the Soyeruor at dinner.
