AN M.H.R. ON HIS TRAVELS.
(Fbom Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, June. 17.
Mr H. D. Bedford, member for Dunedin, parsed through Wellington to-day on his way south. During a chat I had with him ho spoke of British politics, saying that it is generally recognised that the Government would go out of office to-morrow if a, general election took place. Feeling is very strong at Home concerning tho Transvaal labour question. Mr Bedford, as previously reported, was one of tho speakers at tho anti-Chinese demonstration in Hydo Park, and in his address explained the attitude of New Zealand in reference to the labour problem in South Africa, pointing out that it had never been imagined by the people of this colony when they sent troops to the war that the country would be afterwards handed over to the Chinese. The people at Home are- delighted at the attitude of Xew Zealand on tins question. " I believe," he said, ''the Chinese will never geb inio South Africa."' The Liberal party will keep things back until the general election, and the ordinance will then be repealed. While in America Mr Bedford had an interview with President Roosevelt, news of which has already been published. Ho i-3 greatly impressed with the courage and fearlessness of Mr Roosevelt, who will, he predict?, be ro-eleoted to the Presi-{\-Tcy-. The Si.
