HENLEY.
A meeting of the Henley River Board, held on the 13th, was attended by Messrs Robinson (chairman), Fleming, Crane, CarrutherSj and Gibson. Some -time ago Mr F. E. M'-Lean •wrote complaining that a box through the board's embankment for letting in water from Lee Creek was often left open, with the result that the water flowed in and flooded his land. Messrs Fleming and Robinson, who had been appointed ta examine the place and report, recommended, that the box be closed altogether, as they found the land very wet, evidently as the result of allowing the water to flow in. The 'board unanimously agTeed to the recommendation, seeing that by means of artesian wells water is now being got over all the plain, and it was resolved that after Ist September no water from the Lee Creek ba allowed to come on to the plain thus giving those who reqitired water time to provide wells, it being found impossible to regulate the supply taken from the creek and river, as those on very low ground suffered from flooding beifore the water reached the higher ground. The Otokia Drainage Board has passed a similar resolution — namely, to stop all water being taken in from Lee Creek on the Taieri River after September 1. There' are quite a number of artesian wells in the Otokia district already, and more a,ce being put down as fast as possible. — Own Correspondent.
