OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Otago Land Board was held on "Wednesday, when there were present — The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr D. Barron), and Commissioners H. Clark, John Duncan, William Dallas, and H. H. Kirkpa trick.

Ranger O'Neill forwarded valuations of the improvements on the following sections on JPomahaka Downs Estate, which are to be >g>ain offered for selection, burdened with the Valuation reduced as under:— Section 5, block XIII, valuation £3; section 7, block, XIII, Valuation nil ; section 8, block XIII, valuation £14 ; section 9, block XIII, valuation £71 ; section 12, block XIII, valuation £53 14s; section 13, block XIII, valuation £51 3s , section 16, block XIII, valuation £19 18s; section 17, block XIII, valuation £20 18s; section 21, block XIII, valuation, £37 10s; section i, block XIV, valuation nil.

Banger Atkinson forwarded a report on the application by D. L. "Watson to purchase 100 posts cut and lying on Eun No. 11a, Otepopo district. — Application declined.

Ranger O'Neill forwarded valuation of the improvements on allotment 16a, Barnego Settlement, lately held by A. Smith. — Valuation approved ; section to be again offered, burdened with £76 16s for improvements.

Mrs John Long applied for a ilioer.se to occupy section 108, 109, and 116, block I, Tuapeka East district. — License to issue ; rent 10s per annum. The board determined that sections 10 and 110, block I, Tuapeka East district, and also sections 9 and 117, same block, after removal of reservation, be offered at auction,, burdened ■with valuation for improvements, upset price £3 per acre. Ranger Atkinson forwarded report on pait of sections 2, 3, 21, 23, 24, and 25, block VII, Haruwenua district, recently granted to J. S. fi dams under occupation lease.— The board approved the report, and fixed the rental at Is 61 per acre. Ranger- O'Neill's report on the mining reserve, section 1, block X Leaning Rock district, and on the applications made 101 licenses to occupy the same, was adopted — Grazirg licenses to issue accordingly— Mrs Miv.r over 25 acres, rent 20s p?r annum; John Hawley over 10 acres, rent 6s per annum ; S. Spam over 156 acres, reni 20s per annum.

Mr J. B. Grant's application for a lease in perpetuity over section 3, b!ock I, Hummock district, was referred to ranger for report. Ranger O'Neill's report on ih? ppplication by R. D. Campbeil, on behalf of the lessees of Galloway station for a ieduct"o:i in retit on account of the area occupisd by the Alexandra Bonanza dam, was adopted. Rental to be reduced by £8 7s Gd on account of 'area of 1000 acres taken as a reservoir from the run.

Ranger O'Neill's report on tho application by C. F. Watkins, lessee of section 14a, Barnego Settlement, for a remission of rent on account of his losses of stock, was held over.

William Johnston's application for an area of 150 acres adjoining his icsidence above the Pateaxoa station was left in the hands of the Chief Surveyor to deal with.

The Dunedm Drainage Engineer forwarded blue-prints of drawings B^a and 87c, stormwater channel and first section gravitation outifall, Tahuna Park, Lawyer's Head, which were approved.

John Faulks applied for a license to occupy the reseive lyung between the freehold and Run No. 99, Wilkin and Makaiora districts ; and also over the islands opposite sections 21028, 33376, and 34596.— Grazing license granted ifor the portion between the freehold and Run 99. The question of granting a license over the islands was referred to Ranger M'Dougall for report.

After consideration of the case of D. Stewart, who was granted p license to cut the flax on sections 7, 10, 1 of 12, and 13, block I, Kaitangata district, but who had not sent in returns or paid royalty, the transfer was approved. Royalty, £8 15s.

Mr M. M'Lean' s report on the ppplication by Edward Tohill for an occupation lease under " The Mining Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894," over 10 acres, part of section 23, block IV, Waipori distract, was approved and application granted. Rent, Is per a-cre.

Thomas Graham applied for an extension of time in which to remove logs from ths Popotunoa bush. — Extension granted to February 29.

Ranger O'Neill's report on the application by the Taieri County Conncil to have an arei in the south-east corner of section la, Duncan Settlement, made a gravel resPive, was approved (limited to one acre). To be forwarded for the favourable consideration of the Government. Capital value of land, £3 10s per acre. J. D. Caldei's application to have the " thirds " availab'e for Cossgrove ro^d, block XI, Woodland district, expended on Long Point road, was forwarded for consideration of Clutha County Council.

The following applications for land in the vicinity of Patearoa township were held over- — Ernest Highley, 450 acres ; Robert Carr. 200 acres ; Thomas Ledingham, 100 acr°s ; E. Carr, 300 acres; Albert Wilson, 200 acies; Archibald Stanaway, 350 rcres ; R. M'Skimmnng, 200 acres; J. Cambridge, 400 acres.

Ranger O'Neill reported on the petition by a number of carriers to have a camr>ing reserve made on small grazing Run No. 244r, at present held by W. F. M'lntosh — As the Otago Central Railway will probably be oi^en within six months from this time, and as the carriers will then no longer require to camp in Ida Valley, the board declined to tpke steps to reserve the land asked for.

The Committee, • Presbyterian Church at Tuapeka Mouth, applied for a^i area of one acre, part of section 17, block I, Waitshuna West district. — To be advised to make application for the section through the church faotor, when steps might be taken to have the reservation removed.

The Receiver of Land Revenue reported that the follow npt lessees whose leases were declared forfeited had now paid all arrears of rent-— L.I.P. 5705, Dora Nei=s; L.I.P. 1084s, J. M. M'Rae: L.I.P. 3945, A. Wilson.—Forfeitures accordingly rescinded Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by J. Neilson for a license to occupy about one acre of the Inch Valley lime qnany ipi'way reserve. — Glazing license granted. Rent, 5s per annum
