SEACLIFF.

The farmers and settlers of Seacliff and surrounding districts held sports and picnic on Thursday last in Mr Charlton's paddock at Seacliff. The gathering was a decided success, being attended by over 600 persons. Amongst those present was Mr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R. for the district, who had specially come from the south to be in attendance. The weather ■was fine, although threatening, and everyone voted the pienric a great success, and the committee hope to make the gathering an annual one. There -was a varied programme of sports during the day, which brought forth keen, competition and some very close finishes , but the event of the day was a baby show, which brought out 15 competitors. Dr Allen, who acted as judge, had very hard work to arrive at a decision, but eventually the prize was awarded to Mrs W. Leekie' s threo months old baby, ■which weighed 201b. All the babies were over the average -weight for their respective ages, and Mrs Leekie' s baby only won by the narrowest possible margin. The Waitatii and Waikouaiti Bands enlivened the proceedings with music during the day. The committee — Mr E-. King chairman, and Mr G. E. Charlton, secretary — worked hard during the day, and had the satisfaction of making the turnout a success.
