Februa-ry 5. — Oil Wednesday evening a service of song, •• Davy's Sacrifice," was given by tha Merton choir m the Primitive Methodist Church to a very ifair audience. The service, whiich was m aid of the new churcJi building fund, was capitally lendcrcd. Duets wera giv'en by the Misses Pryde and Hammond, and Miss Allan and Mr R. Mawson. A solo waa given by Mi3s V. Hammond. These were rendered in a pleasing manner, and the connectave readings were given by Rev. T. Coatsworth. At the cose a hearty vote of thank 3 was passod to the chon and Mi.ss Allan (organist) for so kindly assisting the church in this way. At the conclusion of the song service a presentation to Mr Hugh M'Gregor, who is leaving the district, took place. The presentation consisted of an easy chair, Bible, and hymn book. Messrs Pearson, Johnston, and Fleming spoke a few words of parting, wishing the aged friend a prosperous future. Mr M'Gregor replied suitably, and the meetingclosed wzth the hymn " God be with you," and the benediction.

Presentation. — Prior to his departure for the. south, Mr Hugh M'Gregor was entertained on Thursday by his friends m the Oddfellows' Hall, Waikousuti. There Mas a numerous assemblage, and m the unavoidable absence of ther Mayor, Mr George Maxwell presided. The Chairman m his speech made reference to the long time— 44 years— th?t Mr M'Gregor had practised in the district as a veterinary surgeon, his services in past days on the School' Committee and in the Borough Council, and his general usefulness to <he community. He then, on behalf of his many friends here -md an Flag Swamp and Waitsti, presented Mr M'Gregor with a ptnse of sovereigns, hopinghe would live to spend a happ/, quiet time with his relatives m Madura. Several others spoke, and the meeting was enlivened by songs contributed by various members of the company. Mr T.
