IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT LONDON, August 11.
The Saviugs Bank Bill has been, dropped, and the Port of London Bill postponed till 1904. In the Lords the Sugar Bill was read a third time. August 12. The Motor Bill was read a third time. The report of the Alien Immigrations Commission recommends regulation of the entrance,- of undesirables into Britain, placing the places where they are resident under control, and their repatriation in certain cases. v August 13. In the House of Commons the amendment moved by Mr T. Lough, regretting that tho matter of the Cunard agreement had not been subjected to public competition, was negatived by 92 to 18. The agreements with the Cunard Company and with the Morgan Combine were approved. August 14. The House of Commons confirmed the Indian Budget. Lord George Hamilton stated that if the final despatch showed that Lords Curzon and Kitchener were still opposed to India contributing to the cost of the reserve in South Africa the project would be dropped. The project was made entirely in India's interests. Parliament stands prorogued. The closing hours were marked hy wrangling, the Opposition endeavouring to compel Mr Balfour to produce the Board of Trade returns on the fiscal question before rising. August 15. The King's Speech read at the closing of Parliament stated that he trusted | his visits to the Continent had produced j good results. President Loubet's visit to England had evoked a striking exhibition of mutual goodwill. The Speech mentioned that great progress had been made in the resettlement and pacification of the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies. It referred to the Balkan troubles, India, and Somaliland, where tho King was hopeful future operations would prove more favourable. During his visit to Ireland he had noticed with the deepest gratification signs of increasing concord among all classes, presaging, he hoped, a new era of united effort for the general welfare. The Speech reviewed the chief measures dealt with, during the session.
