JV ay 11. — The weather is keeping very good . now, and the dairy farmers are profiting thereby. The supply of milk at the" local factory is over 700gaI daily — about SOOgal better than the corresponding period last year. Harvest Festival. — The harvest being at length all safely gathered in, thanksgiving services w«re held morning and evening yesterday in St. John's Church, the interior of the sacred building being appropriately decorated with, flowers, fruit, and grain. Thanksgivings were offered for the bountiful harvest, and the vicar (Rev. C. A. Fraer) impressed on those present the lesson that althougH man's exertions were rowarded in tilling and sowing, yet, after all, it wa3 God who gave the increase. Presbyterian Church.— ln the absence of tha pastor, the Rev. J. J. Cairney, Mr John Riley preached very acceptably at both services yesterday in the Presbyterian Church to good congregations. The congregation intend, on Mr and Mrs Cairney's return, to entertain them at a social, and a presentation of a purse of sovereigns will also be made. Band of Hope. — The second of a series of monthly Band of Hope meetings was held in tha Presbyterian Church on Friday night last, when an address was given by Mrs Don. There was a very good attendance, chiefly adults, and the lecturer was listened to very attentively as she effectively dilated on the misery caused by the use of intoxicating liqtior3. The children gave three musical items from " Undei the Palms," and recitations were given bj James Aitcheson, May Williams, and Lizzi*, Maxwell. Other contributions were songs by Mi=s M. Valentine and Mr P. Wilson, a duel by Mrs Kerr and Miss Valentine, and an organ solo by Mrs Kerr. The meeting passed off very successfully, a vote ol thanks to the lecturer being carried by acclamation at the close, Recreation Ground. — A meeting of the Recreation Society was held the same evening in the Library, when a letter was received from the Domain Board stating that if tha society did not put tbe shelter shed into proper order at once, and carry out their part of the agreement whereby the ground was put ucdei their control, the board would resume possesBion. Mr D. Malloch, the secretary, re?d out tho "balance sheet, by which it appeared the society was in debt about 30s, and "had no funds to fall back upon. Ultimately it was agreed to circulate a number of subscription list 3to try and raise in small sums sufficient money to do some reaily necessary work right away.
