Then she turned and bestowed upon the dog a most taking wink. The dog responded as before, and several passengers ,vho had heard the young woman say "Watch." followed suit as to the smile. Just then the mistress of the animal arose to li-aye the car and the beagle trotted after her. "Lucky he's only a dog. though," said the young woman's escort. "But I admire his taste.'" As he said this the dog, near the rear of the paused and took a lick with his tongue at the blacking on a man's shoe. The young woman laughed at her escort and caul: "So I see."— New York Sun.
