Notes from Reefton.

The Alpine Company's mine manager reports : — We started to crosscut in No. 7 to cut eastern track. We have extended it 10ft for the week. The contractors have extended the level 9ft, making the total distance 60ft. The shaft contractors have sunk lift for the week, making a total distance of 59ft. March 8. A. party has taken over the Buller dredge on tribute for three months. Quartz mining generally is on the improve in the district. The Keep-it-Dark Company has struck reef in the low level, and it is said the stone will keep the battery going five years. Good stone has also been got in the Industry mine. The manager of the Big River Company reports for the week: — The drive has been extended 9ft, with an average of lft of stone. The west drive has also been extended 9ft on a good track, with a little broken Btone mixed up in it. The total distance driven on the reef is 112 ft 6in.
