Notes from Cromwell.

(Frou Oue Own Correspondent.)

CROMWELL, August 27. - The weather is fine, with frosts at night, and the river falling. The river is now nearly as low as at any time this year.

The Riley's Beach dredge is not, I believe, doing nearly 30 well this week, but may strike a rich patch again at anytime.

The Junction Electric dredge is doing some repairs for a few days.

The Rite and Shine should have a good retuin this week if she gets a steady run.

August 30.

The weather is fine, with severe frosts at night. The river is falling steadily. As the days are warm, the snow is coming away gradually, and the river may continue very low for a considerable time yet.

The Rise and Shine dredge is working steadily, but there are some monster washstones to contend with, otherwise the return would be much better.

The Royal Maori dredge will start again next week, but will have a few days' repairing before dredging commi-nces. I believe The dredge will start just ahead of where she left off, near the top of the claim.

September 1. The weather is fine, with a heavy frost last night, and the river is falling steadily.

The Meg and Annie. Company have bought the lower portion of the Annie Queen claim. It Adjoins the top boundary of the Meg ami Ancie, and a part of it has been lately worked by the Upper Magnetic Company on tribute.

The Junction Electric dredge started this morning to shift to the lower end of her claim.

'Ihe material for the Alpine Consols drc-dge extension arrived at the claim this morning, so the dredge should soon be ready for another start.

The R. ley's Beach and Alpine Xo. 1 dredges arc workipg steadily.
