SYDNEY, August 24. All hope of the Quiraiug has been abandoned here.

WELLINGTON, August 20.

The warship Ringarooma returned to port t^-day after nine days' \uifucsessful search for the missing colliei* Quiraing, bound from Newcastle to Dunedin.

The Quiraing left Newcastle on June 23 for Dunedin with a cargo of coal for the Dunedin gasworks, and has not since been, heard of. The Quiraing was an iron screw Hteamer t with a n^t register of 653 tons and gross measurement of 1166 tons, having a length of 220 ft 2in, beam of 31ft 9in, and depth of 19ft 9in. She was built in 1882, and was owned by Mr Griffith, of Toowoomba, Queensland, but was under a 12 months' charter to Mr Sneddon. of Sydney. The vessel was insured in the North Queensland Insurance Company.
