WOODSIDE.
June 21. — The splendid winter weather that we are enjoying at present forms quite a contrast to the weather we experienced last winter, and even to what we had about four weeka ago. As a consequence, ploughing 13 now in full swing, and other agricultural operations are being pushed on at the same rate. The roads continue in a capital condition. Accident. — A rather severe accident occurred a week or two ago to Mr Thomas Adams, of Maungatua, who, while driving a dray through a gate, get jammed up against the gate post. He is, however, now ia », fair way to recovery. Social. — A social was held on Friday even-
ing last week at Maungatua in connection with the Presbyterian Church. The attendance was large, and after a few appropriate remarks from the Rev. Mr Fairmaid, who occupied the chair, the meeting was addressed by the Rev. Mr M'Kerrow (Mosgiel) and the Rev. Mr Gibb
j (First Church); also by Mr Scott (student). Several musical selections (sacred) were very well rencierc-d by the school children, Mrs j Clarke presiding at the harmonium. Sacred I solos were rendered by Miss Dale, Miss Jemima Kcmx>shell, and Miss Nellie Miller with great sweetness and pathos. Several
quartets were also rendered in excellent style, among the performers being Misses Dale and Kempshell, also Mr James Miller. The usual votes of thanks were proposed by Mr Chisholm and Mr Sparks. During the interval ample justice was done to the refreshments provided for the occasion, and the proceedings were terminated with the singing of the National Anthem and the pronouncing of the benediction. Great credit is due to the residents of the district for the way in which the affair waa got up, and also to those who con-
tributed so much by addresses and musical selections towards the enjoyment of the evening.
