THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY REGULATUIONS.

A deputation from the Executive of the Dunedin and Suburban Dairymen's Association waited on Mr J. D. Ritchie, Secretary of Agriculture, on Saturday morning at the office of the Stock Department. The deputation was introduced by Mr Barclay, M.H.R. Mr J. A. Millar, M.H.R., ■was unavoidably late, but appeared before the business was finished. With the deputation was associated the representative from the Taieri and Peninsula- Milk Supply Company.

Mr D. M'Gregor (president of the association), who acted as spokesman, stated that the association represented about 70 of the dairymen, principally retailers, in Dunedin and suburbs. Ho wished to bring under the notice of the Agricultural Department several sections oi the regulations under " Tho Dairy Industry Act, 1898," which were considered to bo somewhat difficult for tho dairymen to act up to. Mr M'Gregor explained that those whom he represented, taken as a whole, did not object to having regulations under which they must work, nor did they object' to ha\ing an inspector to Bee that the regulations were carried out, as long as the regulations were not too severe. Regarding the inspector, the association was perfectly satisfied that the present one was administering the act in a very careful way, and had shown good judgment in all his dealinars.

Several matters haying" been discussed, Mr Ritchie, after stating that he was very pleased indeed to have met the deputation, admitted that in gome instances the regulations were perhaps slightly stnngpnt; but as they were practically on trial he would consider the matters brought under his notice and give effect to them where practicable.

It was pointed out to Mr Ritchie that the deputation which waited on the Hon. Mr Duncan in the first of last week did not represent the Dunedin and Suburban Dairymen's Association, nor did it represent the Peninsula dairy farmers. In speaking to the vote of thanks for having received the deputation so cordially, Mr Ritchie stated that he was pleased to be able to say that the deputation had been, so far as ho could see at the present time, most reasonable in jta demands. A vote of thanks to Mes«re Millar and Barclay concluded the business.
