THE NEW SOUTH WALES LOSS OF SHEEP.

SYDNEY, June 24.

The Mayor presided at a large meeting, including a number of members of Parliament, in the Town Hall. It was resolved to urge on the Federal Government the necessity of suspending the fodder duties in the interests of the pastoral industry. The railway authorities have discovered abuses of the starving stock concessions

on fodder, agents consigning to- stations just outside the metropolitan area sit reduced rates, thence forwarding it at ordinary rates.

At the annual meeting of the Sheep Breeders' Association the president stated that in the past few years the sheep of this State had declined from nearly 70 millions to 41 millions at the (beginning of this year. They would do well if they finished the year with 20 millions. Including the loss of the present season's lambs, this would mean. the loss this year of 40 million sheep.
