Notes from Reefton. (From Oub Own Correspondent. REEFTON, April 13.
Alpine. — The mine manager reports No. 11 level north has been extended 10ft for the week, making 65ft north on the reef. The face is looking well. The stone has widened to 2ft 6in in the bottom, ar.d is still widening. The south face has been extended 4ft without any improvement. The contractors in No. 7 ha\e driven 10[t, and will finish their contract early next week, when we will start rising on the rich stone met with further back in the level. Latest quotations — Alpine Extended, 5s 6d to 6s; Big Rner, Is 3d to Is 6d ; Keep-it-Daik, 24s Cd to 25s 6d ; Progress Mines, 20s io 21s; Kirwan's Reward, 7s to 7s 3d; New Scotia (contributing), 2s to 2s 6d, do vendors, 4<? to ss; Mokonui, 33s to 14s, Al, 24s to 255, Reeves's Proprietary, 15s to 16s, Welcome dredges, 17s 6d to 20s: Grenstone Junction, 22s to 245; Pactolus, 7.5s to 77s 6d , Callaghans Creek, f.s Cd to 7s 6d p. The Old Diggings dredge is almost ready to stait again. A good job has been made of the !«uldcr. The pontoons for Fedderson's dredge are expected to be finished in about foul weeks. The Mokoia dredge has been putting through a lot of tailings. The El Dorado pontoons are lying bleaching in the sun. There are no signs of the machinery coming to hand. No leturn is to hand from the Reeves's Proprietary dredge, so evidently the repairs are not completed. The Buller Junction dredge is at present on poor ground, but an improvement is expected shortly. There is a levival in quartz mining in tins district consequent on the discoveiy of reefs in tho New Scotia and Golden Lead Companies' properties. In the latter development work has been going en in No. 4 level to find the stone driven on in No. 3 level. The reef formation has just been found in No. 4 level. The reef is over 3ft wide, and contains leaders carrying good gold when driven on and wJI enable the company to start the battery. The reef discovered in the vicinity of the New Scotia has developed a good body of stone. Shares in this venture were put on the maiket on Saturday, and were eagerly taken up.
