AUCKLAND
It is stated that owing to the award of Ihe Arbitration Court increasing wages and shortening hours of carters, the rate for carting will be increased on and after the 12th inst. It h*ving been reported that parents of children attending private schools were to fee prosecuted for not sending them to public echools, Mr Witheford, M.H R., com imunicated with the Premier on the subject, «nd received this reply:— "l regret that 1 Siave no power to interfere. The act places responsibility on the Edue-ation Board and the S.M. I can hardly believe that both '/these authorities will act arbitrarily as regards private schools
