NELSON RACES.

First Day — Wednesday, April 9. The Nelson races were favoured by fine weather. There was a good attendance. Before the first race the Blenheim horse Hurleblast, whilst being ridden to the course, took fright, got into a ditch, broke his leg, and had to be shot. Results: — Hack Hurdles. One mile and a-half. — Sea, Wave 1, Plainstone 2, Grey Ribbon 3. There were no other starters. Grey Ribbon ran ofE early in the race, and Plainstone followed suit lp.ter, and the riders were hooted as they came in. O'Leary (the rider of Grey Ribbon) and! Also started Lysbrook, Tornado, King, Teddy, Victoria R. 111, Lincoln's Pride 11, and Rangamaria. De Wet looked a likely winner, but broke commg into the straight. Won by fully 50yds. Time, smin 38sec. Dividends, £5 Ss and ]os. District Hack Race. Six furlongs —Rekanui 1, Miss Gordon 2. Tynan 3. Also started Kaloo, Ronga, and Chapiet. A good race. Won by a length and a-half. Time, lmin 208« c. Dividends, £1 16s and 13s. Grand Stand Handicap. Six furlongs — HineItoa 1, Abydos 2, Reikura and Pure Silver (dead heat)" 3. Also started Saiifoin. From a bad start Pure Silver lost all chance, being left standing. Hinekoa won with something in hand, Abydos, carrying a olb penalty, being ridden out. Time, lrnm 15 3-sssc. Secoxd Day— Thuhsday, Apeil 10. There was glorious weather for the second day's races. The results are as follow . — Second Hurdles. One mile and three-quar-ters. — Grey Ribbon 1, Sea Wave 2. The only starters. The latter struck a hurdle and fell, but M'Morran remounted, and finished 100 yards behind the winner. Dividend, £1 7s. Welter Hack Handicap. — Plainstone 1. Tynan. 2, Cumulus 3. Also started . Dialogue ard Country Maid. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 22sec. Dividends, £1 13s and £1 6s. Richmond Park Stakes. One mile.— Crusop 1, Abydos 2, Hinekoa 3 Only the three started. A grand finish. Won by a head. Time, lmm 43sec. Dividend. £5 3s. A protest against againat Crusoe for inconsistent running was disallowed. Saddle Trot.— Tornado 1. Wmrigal 2, Kin e Teddy 3. Also started: De Wet, Blackpool. Lynbrook, Honduras, Victoria 111, Guard. A good race. Considerable dissatisfaction was expressed, and in consequence Wamgal and rider were cautioned. Time, 4min 19sec. Dividends, £3 103 and He. Waimea Handicap. Sever, fuilongs. — Pure Silver I, Calceolaria 2, Sanfoin 3. These were th« only starters. Won by a length and a-half. Time, lmin 32sec.
