THE SCOTTISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.

Things are shaping towards the starting of this expedit.on, of which Mr W H. Bruce, of Edinburgh, is the leader. The Hekla, the ship to be employed, came over from Aberdeen, and proceeded thence to Inverness, passing on through the Caledonian Canal, and stopping a! Fort William and Ohan to allow the public to inspect her. She is now at Troon. whete her fitting out is to be completed. Her commander is Captain Thomas Robertson, of the Dundee whaler Balaena, who has had large Arctic experience, and has also made a whaling voyage to the Antarctic Ocean. For his discovery of Dundee Island in the latter ocean he received an honorarium from the Royal Geographical Society. Mr Bruce was formerly a member of the staff of Ben Nevis Observatory. Much interest is taken in the expedition in scientific and commercial circles in Scotland, and it :b expected, with ordi nary good fortune, to give a good account jf itself.
