SOUTH CANTERBURY
Geidldmc, April 6. — The balance of the Ranpuka estate — viz., 16,500 acres, owned by Mr William Postlethw aite — changed hands a few days ago, having beer purchased, by Messrs Campbell Bros., Woodbury. The price is lict definitely known, but it is said to be something like £12 10s per acre, which, if true, is a satisfactory deal for the purchasers. The property is situated within a mile from the Geialdme township, and comprises some of the best agricultural land in Canterbury, andi we at one time sought after by the Govern,- (
anent for settlement purposes. Geraldme •people think the Government made a mistake jui not buying the estate, as it would have been jthi» making of the town, and would have made « first-rate settlement. The property is at present in the occupation of Mr M. C. Orbell.
Stock. — The live stock sales in South Canterbury keep up wonderfully well. At G-eraldme last Wednesday there were 14,000 sheep yarded, jand over 200 head of cattle. Both sheep and ■cattle are maintaining high prices. At a iclearmg sale a few days ago cows brought as ithigh as £10, and this only bears out what a (dealer told me a few weeks ago that cattle lwould go to a high figure this year.
