HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The ordinary meeting of the High Schco's Board was held on Monday afternoon, and attended by Dr Brown (che-rman), Messrs J. i,. Sinclair, Thomas Mackenzie, M.H.R. , T. 11. Sidey, Ins Worship the Major, the Rev. Wm. Hewitson ,and Professor Shand. Ihe Chairman said he was very much struck w.th the way in which one of the teachers and Mr Hannn, had de\otad themselves to the le-cently-formed swimming class. They had sacrificed their leisure m an ungrudging way to teach the boys swimming, and of the 70 of whom the class w»3 composed each could now swim. He specially referred to Mr Hanna's ever-ready services m connection with the schoo'. I Mr Wilson, rector of the Boys' School, wrote stating that he had been a-sked to deliver univer- ; sity extens.on lectures at Invercargill, and he asked the permission of the board to do so during the recess in Muy. — Agreed to. Mr Wilson wrote drawing attention to the fact that by the presence of Mr J. Butler in the city an opporcunity was available" of securing a teacher of drawing. — The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr Sinclair to report. The question of the painting of the gymnasium was referred to the chairman, and the asphalting of portion of the ground a I the Boys' Sciiool was referied to the secretary and the chairman.
