FIRE AT RIVERTON.

INVERCARGILL, April 1. A fire at Riverton on Saturday night de- , stroyed Moore's hall and four shops — all o£ them wooden buildings. They were occupied by J. Moore (tailor), J. Lyle (mining agent), F. Nash (paintei), and A. Anderson (solic^ tor). The building was insured in the Standard office for £400, and Moore's stock in the same office for £100 and in the Victoria for a similar amount. Nash's stock was insured in the Standard office for £30. The New Zealand, Standard, and Alliance Companies each have a risk on Robertson" s building and stock, the total insurances being £1500, but the damage was only slight.

We have to acknowledge receipt of Stone' 3 Otago and Southland ' ABC Monthly Guide and Diary." The New Zealand Guaidian states that the Rev. Edgar Ward is now priest in charge o£ what must become a new parochial district formed by the conjunction <g£ Anderson's Bay, Portobello, and Green Island. As there is no such title as " priest-ii^-charge " known to the Church of the Province of New Zealand, Mr Ward wi 1 ! probably shortly bo licensed as vica-r, since curate (the only other title) he cannot he. Th? Roman Empire, nigh forgotten, Once exercised a mighty sway, But like some buildings old and rotten, Was left to crumble and decay. The human body needs attentw, In order to long life assuie, For coughs and cold* ■ue'\e but to mention v W^±<. Woooa' Gbj:at P^rjEiiiiiM Cgzs*
