A LOCAL LOAN.
HALF A MILLION TO BE OFFERED. A GOVERNMENT LOAN TO BE FLOATED LOCALLY. (From Ocr Own Uorrespoxdevt ) WELLINGTON. April 1. It will be remembered that last session Parliament authorised the Government I<> borrow £1,000,000 in aid of public works within the colony. The Cabinet have now decided to raise half this amount within the colony. The loan will be issued at /!- per cent, at par for a term of tLree ye 9i r . No doubt the recent expsnence of the Victorian Government in borrowing in London helped to decide the New Zealand Government not to go on the London market at the present time. There will probably be no difficulty in raising the half-imllion now lequired by the Government m this colony. As a matter of fact, the success of the loan is already practically assured.
