THE EASTER MEETINGS
Racng folk throughout the colony wiU bo engaged during the Easter holidays in assisting at cne or other ot the numerousmeetings \\ hich arc to take place. As for ourselves, most of us will be at Mo&; el to assist the Taieri Club, though ruost i-"'>t>ably there will be a strong contingent go to Christchurch. T'le acceptances for the Taieri meeting are not due until to-night (Wednesday), so I a.m at a disadvantage (especially as some of the contestants are doubly-engaged) in my task of selecting probable winners. However the following should run well forward: —Trial Stakes, Gladys II; President's Han dicap. Brisa; T-wo-mile Trot, Plan: No\C Handicap. LikeSeld; Flying Handicap, La Reine; Mile avd a-half Trot, Gettie: Easter Handi&v- Off Chance; Hack Handicap, Sharprhell The C..T.C meeting promises to be \eiy surccisful. as the acceptances for the two principal handicaps ara ..satisfactory, while those left in the classic events are more numerous than lu-ual For the Ea°tor Hardicap on ne\t the i=sup will. I think, be left to Pampero. St Denis, and The Shannon. The Hon. G. M'Lean's colt is \ery well, and should be keep so, he may be depended on to run a, good race St. Denia also must be in o;reat nick. and. taking his rurning in the Farewell Handicap at our Cup meeting as a guide, he will he hard to belt. Tho Shannon, too, is showing srrea^i form and if she does not win >-l.c inosi. assuredly 'wll make the winner tr.wel to bea., her; albeit, I go for St. Denij to win. Fo-j the Great Autumn Handicap I plunp fc . ; .
Pampero, who will have the assistance of Hewitt in the saddle in both the big handieapg. Our Canterbury contributor gives his Impressions in another column. w The Beaumont meeting will also be held *lon Easter Monday, but as the acceptances r»re not to hand at time of writing it is with "good deal of diffidence that I make the following selections president's Welder, Wild West ; Beaumont Handicap, Muscovite; Wovel Handicap, Stockfish ; Flying HandiK cap, Muscovite) Farewell Handicap, Wild iWeet. Mto the Trots, it v better that they Bhoufcf be left alone.
