ARDGOWAN.
March 30. — Harvesting operations are now up to the stacking stage — completed Farmers now are all on the look-out for threshing mills, which are very scarce, owing to the neighbouring districts being somewhat earlier than ours ; thus the mills which usually work here were pulled out to where they could get an earlier start. I understand that Mr Dplgidsh's mill will finish at Papakaio next week, when the plant will come in to Mr Peter Flannary's farm, so that we have not long to wait for the hum of the threshing machine. In the neighbouring districts, where most of the threshing has been done, the yield has scarcely come up to expectations, wheat crops especially yielding much less than the stook appearance would warrant. The oat crop is slightly better, ai. T in most places the yield is much nearer the farmers' estimate. In one paddock of 160 acres the yield was very nearly 70 bushels to the acre, whilst a 200-acre paddock of wheat beloTging to the same farmer, which at one time looked like a 40-bushel crop, only threshed about 26 bushels to the acre. Roads. — Our roads are now receiving some attention. Most of the bad places on Devil's Bridge road have been gravelled, and tenders are called for gravelling and improvements on both the Homestead and Paison's Creek roads. When this is attended to we shall have cause to be thankful and very little room for complaint. Post Office. — Our new post office in connection with the creamery is a decided succes-. We have now a daily delivery, instead of ha\ l.ig to go to Oamaru for our news and letters. Sale.— l see Mr H. B. Crawford is offering his section for sale. Mr Crawford has spaied no expense in improving his section, and should have no difficulty m effecting a sa!e, without having to submit it to public auction.
