Wheeler, jun., hon. secretary of the Queen's Memorial Committee, to all mayors and chairmen ii county councils throughput Otago : — Dear Sir, — I am directed by the committee entrusted with, the work of erecting a memorial to her late Majesty Queen Victoria, to solicit your aid iv obtaining subscriptions thereto. It 'is contemplated that the memorial will take the form of a statue, which must of necessity . be erected in Dunedin, but the committee axe anxious that the memorial should be representative of theentrre Provincial District of Otago and Southland, both because there must b? many persons throughout the provincial district who will be- gratified, by being afforded an opportunity of giving tangible expression to tlttfir loyal devotion to the memory of the best monarch wife ev»r reigned; and also because the larger the suni subscribed the more worthy of its object will the memorial be.
