OTAGO ROWIVG ASSOCIATION'S REGATTA. The Otago Rowing Association's regatta at Wailiola on. Saturday was conducted under the most favourable auspices. The weather was perfect, and a large concourse of persona was present, all thoroughly enjoying themselves. The principal event of tho programme was the interprovincial race between Otago and Southland representative crews. The race created a good deal of in.tere.it, and was a capital contest throughout, the Southlanders taking the lead in the first part of the journey. The weight of the Otago men, however, told in the end, and they won by a short length. livIERPROViNCIAL FOURS (Southland v. Oiago). Winners to be the holders of the Edmond Challenge Shield. Broad (10 2) 2 The Southland men took the lead at the start, rowing a veiy fast stroke, which was maintained till neatly halfway. The home men, who were about a length behind, then quickened up and gradually got on terms. A great struggle from this out was witnessed, the Otago men rowing well together, having slightly the advantage. About a quarter of a mile from the finish th« Southlandera, palpably tiring, were a length behind, but pulling themselves together spurted determinedly, but without avail. Cohimb, timing his final effort well, managed to maintain the advantage, and won by about a leDgth. James Colthorpe coxed the winning crew and H. Christophers the visitors. Time, 7min 43sec.
