Tho dredge Moa continues on splendid ground, and another large return is expected on Saturday. The Golden Beach dredge has stopped oa. accouat of the pinion in the elevator drive breaking. The Dredgcowners' Association have decided to ask Mr Payne to prepare plans and estimates for a lavinch capable of steaming 11 knots and carrying 12 tons to supply coai to the dredges in the gorge between Alexandra and Coal Creek. The Wgapara No. 3 and Carrick dredges, Nevis, have started dredging again. September 28. The Molyneux is inclined to creep upwards, and the height to-day is about 2sft above normal. Some machinery has come forward for the Dunstan Lead dredge. More material (steel ropes, etc.) has arrived for the Eraser Flat dredge. Some elevator buckets and some odds and ends were delivered to-day for the Glasgow dredge. About everything required has now been forwarded to this dredge, which should soon start. The greater number of the dredges are working steadily. More machinery has arrived" for the Golden Falls dredge. , - , - September- 29. . The Molyneux lias receded slightly since yesterday, and to-day is a fraction under 2ift above normal. Fitting up has been resumed on the- GoldenLink dredge. Returns from the local dredges are good soj far. October 1. The Molyneux has fallen a little since Saturday, and to-day is about 2ft above normal. The returns thi& week from local dredges^ do not give so high an average, only about 450z. The Moa's return was again a splendid one. The Manuherikia dredge is still treating worked ground with fair returns. Two or thiee of the dredges that have been, repairing will probably be working this week. Great gratification is felt by those interested over the improved returns from the Olrig and Morning Star dredges. The Alexandra Eureka has opened out a good face of wash. Mere timber has arrived for the Bendigo pontoons. The local shareholders in the Manorbum Lead Company have sent a petition to the directors re calling a meeting of shareholders to consider the question of liquidating the company. I understand the result of the prospecting wcu,ld not warrant a dredge being put on the claim.
