AUCKLAND
The charges of rape preferred against Constables Mitchell and Williams by two women in connection with the recent sly grog case were dismissed. No complaint was made for a week after. In the grog case the evidence of the wom^n was held to be- unreliable.
The Sir George Grey Statue Committee have selected the design sent out by an eminent English sculptor, but as ths Government contributed £1000 to the cost 01 the monument the design will. be submitted to the Government before final adoption.
On Wednesday Golonel Pen'ton inspected the Colonial Ammunition Factory. ' 'He also visited the laboratory for testing small arms ammunition.
The man picked up unconscious on the water front on Friday morning died in the hospital on Sunday without recovering consciousness. Nothing is known about him beyond that .he gave his name as George Lawson when purchasing a watch on Thursday.
