LONDON, March 5.
President Kruger, at Bloemfontein, has issued a fervid appeal to the burghers, calling upon them to put their faith in God. Meanwhile the entrenchments at Pretoria are being extended.
Lord Roberts has nearly 60,000 men with him, and is receiving constant reinforcements.
General Buller lias 40,000 men under him.
Some of the prisoners who were captured at Koodoosrand tried to escape whilst on their road to Capetown. The attempt was useless.
Eleven hundred of them have been distributed amongst the ships of war now at the Cape.
LONDON, starch 6. The Emperor of Japan congratulated the Queen upon the victories in South Africa.
