Notes from Clyde. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Febiuary 23. The wash rip of 330z for seven days' dredgin'? by the Vincent dredge muf.t he considered sati&factoiy, though by no nioan c . can :t bo tLouzht an cxtraoxdina.rilv aooJ raf.mu. 'JCliis

company's claim is now about well tested, the dredge having worked fully three-parts of the ground, so that nothing very sensational need be expected -from the claim hencefoith.

I learn that the New Alexandra dredge is encountering difficulties in finding access to the claim, the bottom being much higher than tb.3 ordinary river bed. This kind of thingis only to %c expected in most bank claims where no prospecting has been done with a view to ascertaining the depth of deposit. It is "just possible, however, that the dredge may hit xipon an opening to a portion of the claim held by the company, but 'Undoubtedly the major portion of the property will be found un-ft orkable from a river frontage.

The contractor for the construction of the Vincent Extended Company's dredge pontoons is pushing the work well -forward, the workmanship being of a superior kind, as is evidenced by the pontoons now in skeleton.

The site for the building of the Cairnmuir. diedge is now completed, the excavation having been done by blasting out the solid rock which forms portion of the Old Dunstan Company's claim. The site for the building of the Monte Christo dredge is being excavated on the Leaning Eock Company's claim.

Timber has arrived for the pontoons of the West Matau Company's dredge. I have been informed that the recent prospecting operations on' the company's property were altogether satisfactory to tlie piospectors. How it may " pan out " to practical dredging work remains to be proven. No "bottom was Teached by the prospecting operations, therefore nothing definite can be said of the prospects. I stated in my notes some time ago that beting operations on this claim would be unsatisfactory. I have only to state now that such has been the case, though sinking shafts have been a means to proving the ground payable.
