At the inquest on M'Killop, who was killed by being run down by a train while riding on a jigger, it was stated that the train which ran into the jigger was a special ballast train. A brother of the deceased deposed that the latter was a total abstainer. . His life" was insured in the Government Insurance department. Witness could not account for his brother being on the line. After the jury had viewed the scene of the accident, the inquest was adjourned. A fire broke oait at 8.30 on Thursday in the fine new produce stores of the NeAv Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Quay street, which were completely gutted, the Fire Brigade being unable to do more than confine the fire to the building. At the inquest on Arthur Edmund M'Kellop, killed on a jigger on the Kaipara railway line last week, a verdict was returned of accidental death. The evidence showed that deceased had no business to be on the jigger, also that Ganger Warren, who escaped, had received a circular from the Railway department to be careful as to the special ballast train between 3 and 5 p.m.
