JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
The match Dunedin No. 2 v. Dunedin No. 3 was played on the Caledonian ground. No. 2, winning the toss, decided to bat, and were disposed of for 96. Eyre batted well for 24 (not out), and he was ably assisted by Wilson (22), Faulks (18), and Sanderson (17). Stalker and Hamann were tbe pioneer, batsmen for the No. 3, and started scoring freely from the jump. The score was taken to 38 before Hamann was bowled for 10. Stalker soon followed for a well-compiled 25. Fielden (34, not oui|, Mason (15), and Bradmore (11) also lent valuable assistance-, and when time was called ,tlie score sheet showed 109 for six wickets, the No. 3 thus winning by four wickets and 13 runs. Spsnce was the most successful bowler for the No. 2, while Bradmore, Stalker, and Briggs bowled best for the No. 3 team.
The Opoho and Carisbrook D met at Carisbrook on a beautiful wicket. The home team won the toss, and decided to bat. They did not, however, offer much resistance to the Oppho bowling, and were all disposed of for 51 runs, Cook (12) and Harraway (15) being the highest scereFs. Chadwiok, for Opoho, bowled splendidly, taking seven wickets for 17 runs. The visitors had obtained 158 runs for the loss of nine wickets when time was called. Chadwick batted in excellent style, and obtained 61- runs before his wicket fell. Hayden (27), Shea (17, not out), Watkins (11), and J. E. Thompson (10) also got into double figures. Spraggon was the most successful of the Carisbrook bowlers.
Iloslyn met and defeated High School at Bishopscourt. The former, batting first, made 76, of which Sparrow made 30 and Gow 8 {not out). The School could only make 36 against, the bowling of A. Dobson and Fisher, the former securing six wickets far 29. Courtis bowled best for the School.
The match Grange v. Dunedin, No. 1 was wqn> by the former by 11 runs. Grange, winning the toss, elected to bat, and put together 89 runs, Cramond (IS). Lawrence (15), .To'instan (15), Rertbaux (10), md Dry (10) batting well. For i^o Duneuin Cro^s batted excfllently for ?,0, while Famine; (17) end Fieldon (14i, not out) also batted well. For the winners Ferguson (four for 26), Johnston (three for 10), and Cramond (Iwo for 25) bowled well, as did Mason (five for 15), Murchie (two for 32), Fleming (one for 8), and Black (one for IT).
