SENIOR CUP MATCHES. Grange v. Carisbrook A.

This match was resumed on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Carisbrook by eight wickets after a most interesting game. The weather was again propitious, and a failcrowd of spectators assembled to witness the completion of the game. Carisbrook continued their first innings, Broad and Butler, the not-oiit men from the previous Saturday, commencing to the bowling of the Downes brothers. Broad cut A. Downes to the boundary for 3, but off the first ball of his next over Butler patted one to Chadwick at mid-on. E. J. Austin was caught off the next ball. Requiring two runs to top their opponents' score, a good deal of excitement was raised, but Monk speedily decided the result of the first innings by hitting A. Downes out to long-on for 3, while Broad scored five more off the same over. Runs now came quickly, and this partnership was responsible for 40 runs before Broad was bowled by "Baker with the total afe 128. A. Downes secured five wickets, Baker three, and T. Downes one.

With a deficit of 40 runs, the Grange started their second venture with a determination of forcing the game. Baker and A. Downes commenced, the former being almost immediately caught at point off Fisher. Chadwick joined Downes, the latter scoring rapidly, but not without a certain amount of luck. At 40 Hope bowled Chadwick, T. Downes replacing him. Five more runs were added, when G-. G. Austin bowled T. Downes. Johnston now came in, and saw the score to 58, when Austin bowled A. Downes, who had scored 35 by dashing play-. With Turnbull and Johnston at the wickets, the rate of scoring slowed down considerably. The former opened out to one from Hope, and was caught by G. G. Austin, while Smyth quickly hit one to Butler, and Crawshaw failed to negotiate his first ball. Haydon livened things up again, and saw 90 up, and Henderson assisted Johnston to raise the score to 101, when the latter was bowled by Austin, the innings being closed at this total. Austin was again the most successful bowler, obtaining six wickets at a cost, of 24 runs.

With 62 runs to win, Carisbrook sent hi Liggins and Broad, but T. Downes's first bail found Liggins's wickets. G. G. Austin joined Broad, and, playing good cricket, gradually raised the" score to 61, .when Broad got in front of one from T.- Downes, having contributed 34 in good style. Siedeberg went in, to see Austin make the winning-. hit. Carisbrook thus won a- keenly-fought match by eight wickets. Latham joined Cramond, and, with the score at 210, the latter was caught off G. Harraway. Stalker filled the gap, and saw 5 added to the score when he was caught off G. Harraway, who secured seven for 66, bowled steadily all the time, and was by far the best of the Carisbrook bowlers tried. After the usual interval the B team came in for their second innings, Thomson and H. Harraway facing the bowling of Latham and Reardon. With the score at 22 Latham got one pa&t Thomson, who retired for 11. Stables filled the gap, only to see Reardon bowl Harraway. C. E. Smith came next, but Latham almost.

immediately dismissed Stables, j. Harraway joined Smith, and the stand of the innings was made; both batsmen scored freely, heedless to all change^, and the score was taken to 113 before Harraway was caught off Geddes for 44, compiled by clean and hard hitting. Munro joined Smith, and the score was increased by 21 (chiefly from the bat of the latter), when Smith was caught and bowled by Mackenzie for a well-hit 51. Fisher filled the gap, but did not trouble the scorers, being caught off Skitch. Time was then called, the score standing at six for 136, Dunedin thus winning by 101 runs on the first innings.
