Corporal M'Kegg, vrith a scouting party, had the bad luck to be thrown on his head through his hor&e putjting Ms foot in a hole. Just as he avus galloping back Avith the main body. His horse scampered off after the others. Corporal M'Kegg, it is certain, would have been shot or captured if Trooper Waller Johnston, of his troop, had not caught the steed, and Avith coolness and pluck gone back to his assistance amid a perfect hail of bullets. "You'd better.be quick, sir," remarked the youngster as unconcerned as possible ; " they are making this place a bit .too warm for us." Both got off scot free, though the musket fire Avas knocking up the dust all around them.
