The third number of the Sydney Bulletin's quaint booklet, "The Bookfellow," lies before up, and in its new-fledged dignity of price, 3d (no less!) in-\ites attention. Imprimis we arc assured " that is the way in which 'The Bookfellow' shows gratitude for public support— by inviting 2d more support." The duodecimo then proceeds to merit its rise in price by telling us of forthcoming treasures of verse by Brady, Adams, (foodge, and Farrell — by trenchantly criticising everything and everybody — by giving us a number of crisp little verses, some reviews, ? sketch — accompanied by a dainty illustration — oi Ethel Turner, and the first of a series of articles
on " Newer French Poetry," as well as the first of a series on " Artists in Australia," the latter illustrated. Such a list of contents verifies the modest statement on the cover that " The Bookfellow " is published for love (writ large) and 3d (writ very small). The current number of the Windsor Magazine contains A sparkling episode in the adventures of " Stalky and Co." — the only regret being that our only Kipling should not have been assigned a better illustrator than Mr Raven Hill is proving himself. The same remark as to the unevenness between author and illustrator applies to Crockett's serial " Joan of the Sword," which in this number reaches a most critical juncture. Among really interesting articles we draw attention to that on " The Franciscan Convent at Cimiez," " The Zionist Movement," "Longfellow's Heroines, ' and " The Soldier's Bishop " as all being likely to find their appreciation. It is scarcely necessary to add that the number also contains plenty of fiction in the shape of short" stories.
