THE FUNERAL. ANOTHER ANARCHIST OUTRAGE. VIENNA, September 13. The Emperor Franz Joseph sent a pathetic reply to the message of condolence from the Pope. As the outcome of the assassination of the Empress, anti-Italian riots nave occurred at Trieste and Labach. The troops were called out, and succeeded in restoring order. The Emperor of Germany, the Kings of Saxony, Roumania, and Servia will attend the funeral of the Empress of Austria. September 15. Everywhere manifestations of the deepest sympathy are displayed at the demise of the Empress. Emperor Francis Joseph marks the occasion by the creation of an Elizabeth order to be conferred on women for services to the Emperor, State, and society. The Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of Saxe-Ooburg, the Grand Duke Alexis, and the Prince of Naples will attend the funeral of the Empress. The body is now being conveyed to Vienna. Church bells are tolled. September 16. The body of the Empress has reached the Hofburg Chapel at Vienna. The Emperor has cancelled all the Jubilee festivities, and intends to pass the next six months in seclusion.
September 18. The funeral of the late Empress Elizabeth was an impressive spectacle. The Emperor met the Emperor of Germany at the Vienna railway station and kissed him thrice. The two Emperors drove to^the Hofburg Chapel together. An anarchist attempted to murder the Prince of Naples whilst travelling to Vienna. The attempt was, however, frustrated. September 19. At the funeral of the Empress the Emperor made a touching acknowledgment ' of the nation's sympathy. BERNE, September 13. Seventy thousand Swiss, headed by the leading officials of the Confederation, marched past the Hotel Beaurivage, at Geneva, where the body of the Empress was lying. They made an impressive demonstration of sympathy. September 14. The police in Geneva have arrested five anarchists, charged with complicity in the assassination of the Empress of Austria. September 18. Most of the known anarchists have been expelled from Switzerland. Investigation proves that Luccheni executed the orders of a socialistic association in assassinating the Empress. LONDON, September 18. Requiem masses were held in London and the other capitals of Europe to the memory of the late Empress. MELBOURNE, September 14. The Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution of sympathy with the Emperor of Austria.
