Messrs Fenton and Butler yesterday paid a visit to the Big River mine, and inspected the new reef which has just been discovered there. The reef was found between Nos. 5 and 6 levels. It has been driven on 15ft and averages about oft. It carries good gold. I have seen some specimens brought to town, and the stone is of excellent quality, with gold showing freely , .throughout. Good stone has also been obtained in the Dillon. Extended. From present indications it has every appearance of developing into a large body of stone. , The reef in the Cumberland is also looking promising, and at present averages about 3ft 2in, carrying gold. The inkernian Company has at last been fortunate enough to strike a reef on their property. As this" company has already expended 1 a considerable amount in the development of the mine, it is only a fitting reward for their ' enterprise. I learn that stone which promises to develop into a highly payable reef was discovered in the Ajax mine on Thursday afternoon. From samples taken out it is expected to go about 3oz to the ton. This property, which, is now held by the Consolidated Mines Company of New Zealand, was, in the early days, on a splendid block of stone, which gave - liighly payable returns, and it is to be hoped , the new find will prove equally as rich.
