SOUTHLAND STOCK SALES.

The revenue collected at the Dunedin Cus-tom-house dining the past month on goods amounted lo £Zifi2i Gd 2d; and the beer duty came to £1265 i-Js od. During the corresponding month of last year £10,103 17s 4d was col- ! lected as cusioms lcvcnue 011 goods, and the I beer duty amounted to £1219 18s 9d. The Agent-general wiies that hemp is £2 lower thru the nominal price. No business is repoited. The Dunedin millers have reduced tho price of flour by £1 per ton. There is evidently a profitable market for a limited supply of fat slock m Tasmania at present. The "VVakatipu, on her last trip, took to Hobart 20ft crossbred wethers and ewes. The .New Zealand sheep were much appreciated, tho trade operating freely for the whole cargo, which made to 28s Gd for the tops,lhelot averaging 23s 7d. On the same day a pen of 10 months' old Shropshire lambs from Studley, Park realised 30s. A London cable states that silver is at 2a 3d per a?.. . . At the Auckland Gas Company s meeting the leport showed that the net profit ioi thn half-year was £11,196. A dividend of <s fid per share absorbed £0613. Tho balance was carried forward to pi out and loss account. Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (Limited), have received the following cable from tHeir London office:— "Shoep^ skins: Merino skins have- advanced {d per Ib. Crossbred skins have declined Jd per lb, OtheS descriptions are unchanged."

Invercaegill, August 2.— At the AYaHacetown saleyarcls the usual fortnightly sale took place to-day, and notwithstanding the very severe weather, there was a full yarding of fat sheep ; in fact, more than met the requirements of the buyers, consequently there was a cliop oE about Gd per head. F?t cattle were badly represented, veiy few pens of prime quality being on o!t>r. The price? ranged os under: — Fat Cattle— sl entered.
