Li the SuiH'cms Court to-day Adam Armstrong, returning officer for the Wairarapa licensing election, sued the OLigo Daily Tinier Company for £501 damages for alleged I'bcl on account of a Pa.-sing Note commenting on his bill of expenses, in which the names of n number of his family aprtearcd. The particular part complained of was an allusion to the predatory instincts of the X3oider Armstrongs still clinging to the family, and die expression of a wish that returning officers were as immaculate as candidates aie supposed to be. The defence was that the note was fair comment on a matter of public interest, and that the facts alleged were true. A verdict Avas ret-uincd for plaintiff for £75 and costs on the highest sc^le.
