The Late Winter Show. TO THE EDITOR

Sir, — Allow me space in your valuable paper to make a few comments on the late winter show. Some time ago I noticed some letters in the Witness on fancy butter, and a lady from Winton wrote that if she was well and spared until this winter show she intended to "scoop the pool" of fancy butter. " O rover" also took the question up, aud backed the Winton exhibit against all comers. Now, just one word to " Drover "— " Don't count your chickens before they are hatched" in future, as Miss Keiopsbell has sgain come to the front She certainly was caught napping last winter, taking it for granted I that quality would secure her honours, as the , judges were dairy experts ; but on. that occasion quality was not taken into consideration, so that lady took second placo with a quiet rasignation tha» should she be spared until ai'OuS-i.r show she I would put her ligbt foot forcmo?t ; and she certainly has done so, carrying off three first a- 1 ards, and her sister Agnes taking an easy second. Miss Kempahell's exhibit was simply perfection in both quality and design, her exhibit on this occasion being a floral design about 25in high. Much credit is due to these young ladies on their beautiful work of art, which proved itself quite an attraction in the show. In my opinion this class deserves a better prize, as neither time nor exj penae is spared on the exhibits. I think that the j society stands in its own light by not making this class a draw, as it ia worthy of encouragement. — I am, etc., A Lovkr op Art. Dunedin, June 4.
