MESSRS WRIGHT, STEPKENSON, AND CO.'S GORE HORSE BAZAAR.

Messrs Wright, Stephensoa, and Co.'s new horse bazaar at Goie is to be opened on Saturday next. It is claimed by the Southland Times that the bazaar' stands alone in New Zealand — a, monument alike to the enterprise of the firm and to the artistic taste of the architect. The aits is in Mersey street, almost opposite to O'Kane's Hotel. The s^yle of the building is that of the Renaissance, with cement pilasters and cornices, and a pretty red painted brick background with white lines, and the (-ffect when ona takes up a position on the opposite side of the stisst is strikingly good. The building has a frontage of 66ft to Mersey street, the height from the footpath to the parapet is 12ft, from the footpath to the top of- the highest poiat of ths pediment 34ft. An extra large doorway 15ft wide by 12ft high is the main entrance, so as to allow of the admission of machinery of any description. On the left side of the entrance will .be the manager's office, 12ft by 12ft. the clerk's compartment, 22ft by 14ft, and a sample room, 37ft by 22ft. On the right side of the corridor is a saddler's shop, 30ft by 20ft. and a tarpaulin and horse-cover maker's shop, 20ft by 20ft The main portion of the building is 165 ft by 66ft, and is to be used as a saleyard. A large^wing, 70ft by soft, on the left side of this hall is utilised a3 a stable, containing 20 stalls and 11 loose boxes. This portion of the building is lit by two lantern lights, ieach 30ft long and sft wide, with corresponding ventilator louvres at the sides. The main building -will be lighted from the roof by 12 Bft by 7ft skylights, and will be ventilated by torpedo ventilators. Ths roof is constructed of iron principals, giving it a very light appearance. The roof is in one single span of 68ft, and is theiefore one of the largest in the island. The whole is roofed with iron. The drainage is on a perfect system. The building is very substantial, and is constructed entirely of brick on a concrete foundation. To give some idea of its magnitude it may be remarked that the main building alone covers a' quarter of an acre, and lhat not taking into account the stable, over which there is a commodious loft sGft by 2'ift, with Sft walls. It is capable of accommodating 150 horses. The light by day is not only sufficient, but admirable, and the electric light will be available at night. It is also intended to erect a large buggy-shed, which, when completed, together with the other buildings, will cover almost half an acre. The building is erected on a freehold, and will cost between £5000 and £3000. The contract for the structure has been faithfully performed by Mr John Ramsay, of Invercargill. The architect was Mr W. Sharp, also of that town, who has given constant attention in his supervision of the work.
