Sib, — In readiDg the Clifden correspondence > in your usue of .May 24 I notice thafc the writer state? th.xt a little mild excitement was caused at a social, in the way of burning the effigy of one of the feetllers on the Clifden side of tha Waiau. Now, Sir, 1 think this a most disgraceful affair to be carried on at such a gathmug. and to my idea would do moic to roar the Bight's enjoyment than to iaciease it. Why is it that the settler referred to has been suiiject to suc.h insulting treatment by the people of Clifden?— l am. etc., Uppei Waiau, June 6 Fairplay.
The following letter was received at Kai- = tangata on Tuesday from his Excellency the Governor : — "Dear Mr Shore, — 1 am directed by his Excellency to write and inform you that he was very much, interested by his visit to ■ KaifeßKgata to-day: The arrangements for his reception and entertainment had been evidently carefully pUnned. Will you please inform all those whom ifc may concern of the contents of this letter, and believe me, yours ] faithfully, Chablbs Hilc Thbvoe." j
